Mitcham Camera Club Competitions
The Club runs various Competitions throughout the year and, with the exception of the Print League Competitions, they are open to all members in a single section. Each Competition has its own rules and requirements, and they are explained here. If you have any specific questions about any of the Competitions these should be addressed to the Competition Secretary.
Print League Competition (Advanced Shield / Club Class Shield)
Print League Competition – Advanced Shield / Club Class Shield
In this competition, which runs over 3 meetings during the Competition Year, there are no restrictions on the choice of subject matter. Members may enter up to 4 images in each round.
An external judge comments on each entry, and will award marks ranging from 0-10 with half marks allowed. The winner over all is the Member with the highest total score after adding up the best 9 scores awarded across all rounds.
PDI League Competition (Bill Hutchings Trophy)
This competition for PDIs (Projected Digital Images) runs over 5 meetings during the Competition Year. There is an open choice of subject matter.
Members may enter up to 4 images in each round.
An external judge will award marks ranging from 0-10 with half marks allowed after having commented on the entry. The winner over all is the Member with the highest total score after adding up the best 9 scores awarded across all rounds.
Annual Best Print & PDI Competitions (Jeff Shield & Championship Cup / Pat Corcoran Trophy)
All high scoring Prints and PDIs are eligible to enter the best of the year competitions which are held in the following Club Year.
Scores are not given; the judge will select the top three places and may also award ‘Highly Commended.
Internal Struggle - Andrew Haugen
Best All-Round Photographer of the Year (New Brian Tate Trophy)
The new Brian Tate Trophy is awarded to the photographer who has the highest aggregate score of their top nine scores in both Prints and PDIs league competitions.
Set Subject Print (Cursell Cup)
The set subject, which is decided by the Committee, is announced at the beginning of the Competition Year. Simply, the cup is awarded to the one judged best.
Chelsea Riverside - Alan Hutchings
Animal PDI (Pop Owen Trophy)
Judging is by the members present on one evening of the competition. Members indicate their preferences by awarding 6 points for 1st place, 5 for 2nd place etc. It is permitted to vote for your own entry.
The trophy is awarded to that member whose entry gets the highest aggregate score.

Small Prints (Alan Trophy)

This competition is open to all members and takes place on a single evening during the Competition Year. It is designed to be as easy as possible to enter simply requiring the Member to produce a print not exceeding 7” x 5” (12.7 cm x 17.8 cm).
Members may enter up to 4 prints in each competition. However, images used in an earlier year’s competition cannot be re-entered.
Judging is carried out by the members present on the night of the competition, and it is permitted to vote for your own work.
Panel of Three Prints (Glay-Joy Shield)
Drops - Andrew Haugen
This competition is held at a single meeting. Entries can either be a panel of three individually mounted prints or three prints in a single mount. If a single mount is used the prints may be arranged either vertically or horizontally.
Panels should have a central theme, or common subject matter, and should, where possible, have a similar mounted style.
Members may submit up to four entries.
